OK people, it´s time to start making arrangements for the 2nd Playa Azul Open to be held on Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd of april at the Cozumel Country Club.
Bob Murphy, our defending champion, has already confirmed his assistance and he plans on retaining his winner status. Hopefully this time we´ll give him a run for his money.
This years format will be the same (see below) except that due to popular demand, we will be having three categories; a women´s one, playing from the YELLOW TEES and two men´s categories, the first one being for those with a handicap of up to 10 and playing from the BLUE TEES and the other one for higher than 10 handicaps which will be playing from the WHITE TEES. Trophies will be awarded to the first three places of each category and, as the previous year, some local merchants have already offered their contribution with a wide array of gifts to be also distributed as prizes.
Registration fee for this year will be of US$200.00 for players. This includes two days of cart and the award dinner w/drinks. Non players will be welcomed to the dinner ceremony at a rate to be announced during the tournament.
So book as soon as you can for rooms will be going fast and don´t forget to ask for our tournament rates.
Tournament Format and Handicapping
- Individual, 36 Hole Medal Play – Quota Format using a Stableford point system.
- Women: YELLOW TEES; Men Cat. A (Hdcp 0 -10): BLUE TEES; Men Cat. B (Hdcp > 10): WHITE TEES.
- Trophies for best three places on each category.
- Players will receive a points quota based on subtracting 90% of their handicap from 36.
- All play will be gross scores based on Stableford scoring and assigned quota.
- Please note your GROSS score on each hole.
- There are no points rewarded for double bogey or worse so in the interest of pace of play please pick up your ball when you reach double bogey!
Stableford Chart:
- Bogey = 1 pt / Par = 2pt’s / Birdie = 4 pt’s / Eagle = 6 pt’s / Aces = 10 pt’s
Example: Player A is a 10 HDCP his quota is 25 pt’s (10 x .9 = 9, 36 – 9 = 25)
- Day One player A scores 29 points. He is +4 for the day.
- Each player’s quota is adjusted for the second day! Add original quota (25) to 1st day points (29) & divide by 2. Day two Quota = 27
- Day Two player A scores 25 points. He is -2 for the day.
- Day One +4 plus Day Two –2. Two day point total is +2 points for Player A.
- Highest two-day point total is the winner.
- All Ties will be broken in the following manner:
Tiebreaker #1 – Best back 9 points total from Day Two
Tiebreaker #2 – Random Scorecard Playoff, starting hole to be determined by an Innocent Bystander.
